JOB VACANCY: UK BOOKKEEPER & ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT

Employment: Part-time or full-time
Salary: Negotiable, based on experience and ability

We are looking for a practical and reliable bookkeeper/accounts assistant to help manage the accounts of several UK businesses.

Formal accounting qualifications are not required. What matters is your practical knowledge, ability to use accounting software and willingness to learn.

Main responsibilities:

• ⁠Maintain business accounts using QuickBooks and Xero
• Enter and correctly categorise income and expenses
• Complete bank and payment-account reconciliations
• Maintain customer invoices and supplier records
• Prepare and check UK VAT records and returns
• Help prepare straightforward year-end accounts
• Assist with Corporation Tax information and company deadlines
• Keep accounting records accurate and organised
• Identify anything that needs advice from an external accountant or tax specialist

What we are looking for:

• Practical bookkeeping or accounts experience
• Working knowledge of QuickBooks or Xero—training can be provided on the other
• A basic understanding of UK VAT, tax and company accounting
• Ability to understand bank statements, invoices and financial records
• Good attention to detail
• Honest, reliable and able to maintain confidentiality
• Comfortable learning new systems
• Good written and spoken English

No ACCA, ACA or other professional accounting qualification is necessary.

Experienced bookkeepers, accounts assistants, accounting students, recent graduates and self-taught applicants are all welcome. Selection will be based mainly on practical ability rather than certificates.
