Job Overview:

The Yoga/Pilates Trainer & Receptionist is responsible for conducting group and private sessions in both yoga and pilates disciplines as well as doing reception duties in times when there is no session (see full responsibility list of the later in the attached Gym & Spa Receptionist Job Description). This role involves developing tailored programs, ensuring safe and effective practice, and providing motivation and guidance to clients of all skill levels. The trainer should foster a positive, supportive, and mindful environment, while helping clients achieve their fitness and wellness goals.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Class Instruction:
    • Lead dynamic and engaging yoga and pilates classes for individuals or groups, focusing on building strength, flexibility, balance, and mind-body connection.
    • Create customized training plans and sequences that align with the needs, goals, and experience levels of participants.
    • Offer modifications and progressions to accommodate all skill levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners.
    • Educate clients on proper posture, alignment, breathing techniques, and mindfulness during exercises to maximize effectiveness and prevent injury.
  • Individual Sessions:
    • Conduct one-on-one private sessions tailored to individual needs, goals, and any physical limitations.
    • Provide personalized advice, corrections, and adjustments to ensure proper technique and form.
    • Track clients' progress, offer guidance on improving technique, and adjust routines based on feedback and results.
  • Client Support & Motivation:
    • Build strong rapport with clients and foster a supportive, welcoming environment.
    • Motivate clients to push beyond their limits while ensuring a safe and injury-free practice.
    • Provide ongoing encouragement and feedback to help clients achieve both short-term and long-term fitness and wellness goals.
  • Class Preparation & Administration:
    • Prepare for each class by planning sessions, considering the experience levels of participants, and ensuring necessary equipment (mats, props, etc.) is available.
    • Set up and break down equipment before and after classes.
    • Maintain accurate records of attendance and any special client needs or requests.
  • Health and Safety:
    • Ensure the safety of all participants by monitoring form and posture, providing adjustments when necessary.
    • Educate clients on the importance of listening to their bodies and preventing overexertion.
    • Maintain knowledge of first aid and CPR, and be prepared to handle emergency situations if they arise.
  • Continual Learning & Professional Development:
    • Stay updated on the latest trends and techniques in both yoga and pilates to enhance client experience.
    • Attend workshops, seminars, or courses to maintain and expand certification and professional knowledge.
  • Client Engagement & Retention:
    • Promote upcoming classes, workshops, and special programs to current and potential clients.
    • Encourage clients to provide feedback on their experiences and incorporate suggestions for improving the service.
    • Develop and nurture long-term client relationships to promote loyalty and repeat business.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education & Certification:
    • Certified yoga instructor and certified pilates instructor.  
    • Additional certifications or training in fitness, anatomy, or related fields are beneficial.
    • CPR and First Aid certification required or preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience teaching both yoga and pilates in a group or individual setting, with a proven track record of effective instruction.
    • Knowledge of various styles and techniques within yoga (Hatha, Vinyasa, Restorative, etc.) and Pilates (mat, reformer, etc.).
    • Experience working with clients of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and fitness levels.
  • Skills:
    • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to demonstrate and explain complex movements and concepts.
    • Ability to adapt instruction based on individual client needs and fitness levels.
    • Proficiency in understanding human anatomy, including the musculoskeletal system, to guide safe movement.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to connect with and motivate clients.

Working Conditions:

  • The position may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on class schedules.
  • Ability to work in various settings, including gyms, studios, resorts, outside areas, wellness centers, or private sessions.
  • May require physical stamina to demonstrate exercises and assist clients with adjustments during classes.
